Artificial Intelligence as a Driver of Digital Transformation: Perspectives for the South Westphalia Economic Region

On June 19, 2023, KI.NRW, together with AICommunityOWL, SUMMIT Siegen, and ifm, invites you to the second AI Meetup NRW at the “SDFS Smart Demonstrations Factory Siegen.” Joined by experts from research, industry, startups, and the AI community, we will discuss how Artificial Intelligence can help overcome the digital transformation in South Westphalia. The focus will be on the topics of digitalization and sustainability in line with the “Twin Transition.” Combined with a tour of the new demo factory, this networking event provides an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas about the technological future of the region.

The introduction of ChatGPT and similar technologies has triggered a real hype and brought a new dynamic to the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI already plays a role in many application areas today and can make a significant contribution to the competitiveness of the local economy. From intelligent resource management to digital business models, the goals of a digital and sustainable industry can be pursued along the entire value chain. South Westphalia is characterized by a strong industrial economy. In order for the many medium-sized companies to remain innovation leaders in the future, AI can make a crucial contribution to industrial transformation.

But how? The KI Meetup NRW brings together various stakeholders in Siegen to kick-start the development of an AI cluster in South Westphalia. Best practices from different industries will demonstrate how the use of AI and data science already creates added value for companies in the region. The event begins with a tour of the Smart Demonstrations Factory Siegen. In addition, short lectures and startup pitches provide an opportunity to gain insights into innovative AI solutions from the region and understand how ecosystem building can succeed. A special highlight: The company EleQtron from Siegen provides insights into the development of quantum computers and demonstrates how the regional economy can occupy key technologies with innovative power in the future. Following the event, there will be plenty of opportunities for personal exchange and networking over snacks and drinks.

KI Meetup NRW – The Networking Event by KI.NRW & AICommunityOWL

With the second edition of the new event format KI Meetup NRW, KI.NRW and AICommunityOWL aim to strengthen the AI ecosystem in NRW and beyond and connect interested stakeholders across industries. The after-work event focuses on concise short lectures and startup pitches to discuss current AI trends and application potentials. Personal encounters are at the forefront. In the future, the event will take place in different locations, covering various topics.

This guiding principle encapsulates the goal of SDFS Smart Demonstrations Factory Siegen GmbH, which is to provide value-added manufacturing based on the latest scientific knowledge. SDFS offers an innovative product portfolio through consulting and production services, and has built a partner network of over 50 companies. In collaboration with its partner companies and the Chair of International Production Engineering and Management at the University of Siegen, SDFS develops and tests new production techniques, making the benefits of Artificial Intelligence tangible in real production scenarios.
